Gap Year Cookery Courses

 

About the course

A fun and informative approach to learning to cook.

 

You will learn basic cookery skills and essential safety and hygiene in the kitchen with a range of recipes from simple catering for one, to meals to feed a houseful of students or a chalet full of hungry skiers.

All equipment is supplied, and you leave with a book of recipes and an apron.

Programme

Arrival on Sunday, collection from La Rochelle airport.
(Ryanair from Stansted).

A welcome meal is prepared for you on Sunday evening, time to relax and get to know the other participants.

 

From Monday to Friday following breakfast prepared by the students in turn, lessons start at 9.00am – 12.00, cooking lunch which we all eat together, then more cooking, demonstrations and tastings from 2.00pm – 5.00pm. After a break we reconvene at 7.00pm to finish preparing dinner for 8.00pm. All ingredients and drinks are included in the price.

Saturday morning is spent at leisure, visits to local shops or a trip to La Rochelle can be arranged, before returning to the airport.

During the week we shall visit the local food market in Luçon choosing and tasting fresh local ingredients such as fish, fruit and vegetables to prepare later on that day.

 

There will also be a visit to either a locally renowned bakery specialising in brioche and viennoiseries (sweet pastries & croissants), or to a well known chocolate factory.

Sample recipes: A variety of hot and cold soups. Roulades. Pâtés and Tapas. Fresh pasta & pasta sauces. Coq au Vin, Tandoori Chicken, Chilli con Carne, Traditional Roasts. Tartes aux Fruits, Chocolate Mousse, Home Baking – scones, brownies, cakes.

At La Boulinerie, Vendee, France
The students will be accommodated in twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms.

Cost: £475.00

Includes tuition, accommodation, equipment, trips and airport transfers. Does not include flights to and from La Rochelle.
